EXPRESSIVE ARTS

Using the expressive arts; writing, drawing, painting, movement, drama etc. has enabled people to recover aspects of their inner world that words alone were unable to reach. Through our creativity, even in a simple paragraph of writing, we can begin to express things that cannot always be spoken.  Enjoy the recourses below as you begin to delve into your own inner landscape and reap the riches that grow inside.

If you live in the Guelph area, Melinda Burns. M.A is a great resource. "Melinda Burns, MA is a writer and psychotherapist in Guelph, Ontario. She has been leading groups in writing and creative process for over 20 years. Her stories have won first prize in the Toronto Star Short Story contest in 2001 and the Elora Writers' Festival writing competition in 2008, and her poems, fiction and essays have appeared widely in print, and on CBC radio. Her passion for writing flows into her work, inspiring and encouraging the creative spirit in each person. She is a wonderful writing coach and therapist." She has been running "The Writers Way" writing workshops and groups for many years.

For those of you who would like to explore art for therapeutic expression, Elizabeth Cunningham is a musician and a well accomplished artist, teacher and expressive arts therapist.  She runs workshops periodically and has a private practice in Eden Mills.
